The vine variety Tempranillo

The vine variety Tempranillo

One of Spain’s best wine grapes, planted under different names all over the country. There are almost 70,000 hectares planted with Tempranillo, though it produces the best performance in colder regions such as Rioja or Ribera del Duero. Tempranillo wines are very good for maturing in oak barrels and when not finished as single varietal wines they are very important in cuvées.

Wine
Ruby red color with very intensive fruit (cherry, fig) and very balanced alcohol-to-acid ratio. When mature the wines gain in complexity and richness, often with a typical (animal) leather note.
